Director of Member and Public Relations

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Communication or Marketing strongly preferred.  Additional specialized training in Consumer and Public Relations highly desirable.  Continuing education as required and necessary.

 

 

EXPERIENCE:

Must have five years of progressively more responsible experience in electric utility industry with emphasis on communication.  Must have a clear understanding of electric cooperative as it relates to member and public relations.  Additional experience in public relations as it relates to electric utility consumers specifically, is preferred.  Additional experience in the housing and industrial construction industry helpful.

 

 

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

Must have a basic knowledge of electric distribution, generation and transmission as well as basic electricity Should be familiar with construction standards codes and regulations as it pertains to efficient electrical utilization.  Should have a thorough understanding of cooperative philosophy. Must be familiar with cooperative rules and regulations and the Oklahoma Corporation Commission rules and regulations as it pertains to the utility industry.

 

 

ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

Must have excellent communication skills, both written and oral;   with the ability to settle member disputes with the cooperative using active listening, empathy, and problem-solving skills.  Must be able to manage news media relations and effectively communicate our message; must be able to use necessary office equipment with an understanding of various media technology preferred. Must have the ability to encourage member engagement in Cooperative events.  Must be able to manage departmental staff by setting clear goals and objectives, with a desired timeline and monitor progress on a regular routine.  Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:           

Usual office, warehouse and field conditions.  Inside and outside work is required.  Travel is required. Exposed to varied adverse weather conditions, such as dust, rain, extreme heat, extreme cold, ice, snow, humidity, etc. Works long hours in emergency situations. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.

 

 

HAZARDS:

Falls, falling objects, insect bites, toxic and/or caustic chemicals, hazardous materials, fumes and airborne particles, electric shock, cuts, burns, poison ivy and oak, etc.  Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, vibration.
