GIS Support Technician

The Operations and Engineering Department  is now taking applications for the position of GIS Support Technician.  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.  Reasonable accomodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

Education

Strongly prefer graduate from a two (2) year accredited technical or associate program with training in Computer Aided Drafting, and or GIS systems or a minimum of two (2) years of college in related fields or  High school diploma or equivalent required with a minimum of five (5)years of GIS experience.  Must have a working background in basic math and beginning algebra.

 

Experience

Entry Level - None required.  Prefer applicant with proven work experience.  Prefer some computer operation skills.  Should be proficient in designated computer software skills.

 

Job Knowledge

Entry Level - None required.  Prefer applicant with proven work experience.  Prefer some computer operation skills.  Experience in reading and understanding mapping systems.

 

Abilities & Skills

Highly dependable and self starting.  Must be able to work with others.  Must be able to demonstrate mechanical drawing and basic math skills.  Must be capable of learning GIS systems in use, prior experience preferred.  Must have ability to read and check maps, plats, staking sheets, legal descriptions for accuracy.  Must be able to communicate with the public and employees over the telephone or radio.  Must be able to understand and follow procedures issued by the Engineering office.  Must be able to operate office equipment including telephones, computers, radios and copy machines.
