INSIDE AND OUTSIDE

 

East Central Electric’s Engineering Department is accepting applications and résumés for the position of Staking Technician.  Please submit applications to Gary Creekmore, Vice President of Corporate Services. 

 

Summary of Responsibilities:

This position has various responsibilities and duties within the engineering department and assigned territory.  One of the primary functions is to meet with member owners who request electric service, change/modification to a service and to determine the best way to provide service.  During this process there will be economic considerations, best engineering practices, as well as the cooperative’s terms and conditions that will need to be evaluated and followed.  Detailed electronic staking sheets (work orders) are then generated and submitted to operations for construction (new, upgrade, etc.).  It will also be necessary for this individual to obtain and write easements giving East Central permission to construct facilities on private property.  This may also entail some surveying as well as research of courthouse documents to obtain property descriptions.

 

This position must also generate estimated electric utility costs for construction and determine contributions that may be required by the member.  It will also be necessary to calculate facility electrical loads to help determine adequate equipment size, including transformers, conductors, etc.

 

Work orders for system upgrades and system improvements are also a responsibility and will be assigned by a supervisor.  Coordination with developers to determine line routes and facility location for new housing developments will also be required.

 

The individual will also obtain notary certification.

 

Educational Requirements:

High School diploma or equivalent is required. Strongly prefer a graduate of at least a two-year college with a degree in a related field or equivalent experience of at least 5 years in the distribution power industry.

 

Skill Requirements:

It is imperative that the qualified applicant have a very good working knowledge of personal computers including Windows based software and Microsoft Office products.  A working background in basic math and beginning algebra will also be emphasized.  It is preferred that the applicant have a working knowledge of RUS construction standards as well as the National Electric Safety Code, National Electric Code and a working knowledge of all applicable safety codes.

 

The individual will be driving a company vehicle a will be required to have and maintain a valid Oklahoma driver license and pass a random drug screening test.

 

The job also requires the physical ability to walk through rough terrain in order to stake/mark out the pole line routes and the ability to lift 50-75 lbs. This is a safety sensitive position.
